Kid Pixs Innovation

To access Kid Pix on your computer, go to asu.edu and sign on to myasu

Click on the apps link on the left hand column of your page

Then click on the letter k link and scroll down until you find the application Kid Pix Deluxe 4 (Riverdeep)

Then click on the link "run app now"

Follow prompts given by the computer

 

Now that you have Kid Pix open, you need to know how to manage the software

 

HOW TO CREATE:

1.      Idea machine: Activity templates by subject-math,science, etc. Looks like a brain with a lightbulb on his head

2.      Help tool: answers questions about the program. Looks like a question mark.

3.      Draw tool: for freehand drawing. Gives pencil, chalk, crayon, or marker option. Looks like drawing tools.

4.      Text tool: for typing on screen. Looks like ABC

5.      Paint tool: to paint/draw on screen. Has paintbrush, sound tool, and spray paint options. Looks like a paintbrush.

6.      Fill Bucket: to fill whole page with solid color. Has different pattern options. Looks like a paint bucket.

7.      Sticker tool: used to put sticker pictures on screen. Looks like a roll of stickers.

8.      Rubber Stamp Tool: to stamp graphics on page. Looks like a stamp

9.      Mixer tool: to alter colors in the pictures.

10. Background tool: To put pre-made backgrounds on page. Looks like a photograph

11. Sound tool: to insert sounds into picture. Looks like a speaker with a music note.

12. Animations tool: to insert moving animations into picture. Looks like a dog.

13. Grab tool: used to move things around picture or cut and paste. Looks like a glove.

14. Eraser tool: used to erase mistakes. Has a small eraser or whole page erase option. Looks like an eraser.

15. Start over tool: to erase whole picture. Looks like a dynamite.

16.  Mistake tool: To undo or redo last move. Looks like a little guy face.

17. Paint color tool: to change drawing or painting color. Looks like a paint blob.

 

 

 

WAYS TO USE THIS APPLICATION IN YOUR CLASSROOM: 

 

1. Used to illustrate thoughts without worrying about letter form

2. Students can use graphics in their work to illustrate their thoughts

3. Students can write a story and illustrate it with Kid Pix

4. Kid Pix can be available during center time for the students to explore visually and create stories.

5. The Idea Machine tool can be used to provide templates that correspond with class lessons.

 

 

 

NOW IT'S YOUR TURN: 

 

Activity: 5 minutes

 

1. Open up Kid Pix

2. Create a picture using at least five tools, including text, sound, and three others of your choice

3. Include your name and ECD 313 on your picture

4. Have fun and be creative!
