What is it?

Social bookmarking is a way for internet users to save, store, and share interesting web pages. A user can create a personal or public profile on which they can save web pages they would like to go back to in the future.

Who uses it?

ANYONE! It is free and useful to anyone in the job field, attending school, or just wanting to share interesting items with comon people.

How do I use it?

First you must sign up. Go to http://delicious.com then follow these simple steps:

1) Click on the green "Join Now" button in the top right corner.

2) Fill in your personal information, create a username and password, then agree to the terms.

3) Start adding bookmarks of important websites.

4) Add co-workers, friends, classmates, family, or anyone to your "People" list and begin sharing web pages back and forth.

How can I use Social Bookmarking (Delicious) in my classroom?

Students Uses:

1) Bookmarking sites can help students save websites they find helpful in doing research. A lot of times students will find a very valuable website then lose it. Bookmarking allows them to save web pages as well as share with fellow classmates.

2) By using tags, students can find information on a specific topic easily.

3) Students can create groups of people to share information with. This could be great for group projects in which you combine research.

Teacher Uses:

1) Classroom management. If teachers create a social bookmarking group for their classroom they will know where students are getting their information from.

2) Students and teachers can move from one computer to another and still have full access to their bookmarks.

3) Collaboration between teachers is easier because they can easily share important websites or ideas.

4) Teachers can assure parents that children are not able to drift off to advertisements or other junk online. With a delicious page they are immediatley sent to the specific bookmarks.
